26.10.2012- The Little Black Jacket

There are few things in fashion more iconic than the little black jacket. Whether it's a tuxedo, biker jacket or boyfriend blazer, it's undoubtedly a garment which has stood the test of time and which has become a real wardrobe staple the world over. No surprise then that the legendary status of such a classic piece is being celebrated by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld through their The Little Black Jacket project. A compilation of images, the exhibition (which has previously travelled to New York and Tokyo) is currently housed at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Featuring an array of personalities, each portrait takes a signature black bouclé jacket by Chanel and showcases the variety of ways in which it can be styled, proving that there has scarcely been a piece so versatile. Last week I went along to the exhibition to see the portraits firsthand:

The sheer array of portraits on display makes the exhibition a must visit- I had great fun playing 'name the face' as I wandered around! My favourite images have to be those of Astrid Bergès-Frisbey (love the Union-Jack tee!), Elle Fanning and Vanessa Paradis. If you do get the chance to pop along then do- there's so much more on display (including an amazing triptych of Elizabeth Olsen) but my camera had a real aversion to the low lighting! All the more reason to pick up the book I suppose!

The Little Black Jacket runs at the Saatchi Gallery until November 4th, with free admission.

Have you been to this exhibition? If so what did you think?

  1. Yup I popped there last week! It was fun although I do wish it had been lit differently. Nice to get the free prints too. A fun free trip for sure though :)
