15.07.2016- On the Menu: Ramore Wine Bar, Portrush

As well as the glorious weather and the opportunity to explore some beautiful scenery, my visit to Northern Ireland back in May also afforded the chance to indulge in some glorious food. Growing up in an Irish family, I’m more or less solid potato anyway, but there’s something really special about eating locally when you’re away on holiday- and given that we were well and truly clocking up the walking miles on our trip, I had no qualms about treating myself to some indulgent dishes- and one of the loveliest meals we had was at the Ramore Wine Bar in Portrush:

After an afternoon of trailing around Downhill Demesne and Mussenden Temple, followed by a brilliant trip to Barry’s Amusements, a hearty dinner was well and truly in order. Walking along the harbour, we stopped off at Ramore Wine Bar. The no booking policy meant that we had to wait about 45 minutes for our table, but we were swiftly served after being seated. The menu is fairly staple in shape, offering recognisable classics and a selection of sides to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. Speaking of which, I opted for the fish and chips, accompanied by a side of mashed potato- when in Ireland and all that! Stuffed to the gills, I couldn’t quite find room for dessert, but their cake selection has to be one of the most impressive I’ve ever seen- definitely worth exploring further on a return visit!
