18.09.2019- On the Menu: Petersham Nurseries Teahouse, Richmond

Wednesday, 18 September 2019

Last Saturday, with a gloriously sunny day in prospect, Hannah and I made a pilgrimage to Petersham Nurseries in Richmond for lunch and a look around- pretty much the perfect weekend activity! When I visited this original Petersham last year for the first time, it was on a Monday so there was a limited selection of refreshments on offer in the Teahouse, but on this occasion we hit the jackpot with a fully fledged menu, replete with lots of lovely options to enjoy in the truly beautiful surroundings. Although we had to queue a little while to order (to be expected on a sunny September day!), the food was well worth the wait:

Freshly prepared and using seasonal ingredients, the Petersham Nurseries Teahouse is the perfect encapsulation of kitchen garden- think tasty salads, sandwiches, quiches and a bounty of baked goods, all prepared from scratch everyday. We each opted for the ham and mustard sandwich on home baked bread, and salads to share- namely aubergine, yogurt and pistachio and courgette, roasted tomato and garlic- heavenly! Cake wise, it was chocolate and chocolate marble sponges which were the order of the day, alongside a pitcher of their signature sparking elderflower, which I think might just win the prize as my favourite drink on earth, especially served cold, with lemon and mint. Delicious!

Have you visited anywhere new for food recently?
