04.03.2020- Walking Wonders: Painshill Park

Another installment in my walking diaries! This time direct from Painshill Park in Cobham, Surrey, an 18th century landscape garden which offers plenty of options for an afternoon spent soaking up some fresh air. Created by Charles Hamilton, the park features a number of characteristic features including a crystal grotto, gothic tower and folly- all of which were created as the garden as was being constructed. On a blustery day last autumn, Katharine and I headed to the park for a ramble:

As a really relaxing way to while away an afternoon, Painshill is a perfect option. Although the historical curiosities aren’t as authentic as they might have been designed to appear, they still make for interesting lookout points as you make your way around the park. In autumn it was just lovely to see all of the seasonal shades across the landscape, and I imagine it would look magical at this time of the year too, with all of the spring blooms bursting into life.

Have you visited any new spots recently?
