24.08.2020- Travel Talk: A Norfolk Photo Diary

At the start of 2020, I had a list as long as my arm of travel plans, as, I'm sure did most people. I was beyond keen to capitalise on the travel gains which I'd made over the last few years, and had a handful of new destinations on my 'to visit' list for this year. However, the best laid plans- scuppered, as so many have been by the awful events of the year, have been put on hold for the time being- who could have imagined that 2020 would have turned out to be the year of simply holding tight at home?

I've actually really enjoyed being able to explore the lovely locations which are right on my doorstep, and the turn of events since March has made me more thankful than ever for living somewhere so green and open- truth be told, I haven't missed commuting into the city at all. This year has also been all about adapting travel plans too, and last month my lovely friend Katharine and I swapped our planned break to the Isle of Skye for a week of adventuring along the North Norfolk coast- still, of course, being super responsible and mindful as always of the guidelines which we're all learning to live by. For me, it was wonderful to have the opportunity for a change of scenery after four months of being in one place, and really refreshing to have the chance to explore a new part of the country:

A beautiful wander in the countryside / Sunset in Wells

A walk around Holkham Park and the Walled Garden

Big blue sky / Beautiful dahlias at Holkham

Stiffkey scenery / More divine dahlias

A visit to beautiful Blickling

A stroll in Sheringham

Lobster for lunch / Seaside scenes

Wells beach / A beautiful baked potato!

Sunset on Stiffkey Salt Marsh / Sea Lavender

A wander around Houghton

Glorious gardens at Houghton

Heavenly Holkham beach / First restaurant meal in three months!

Blooms in Cley / Seal spotting!

A lovely afternoon on the sea

So many seals! / Serene blue sea

Another dinner at Socious / Heavenly Holt

A peacock butterfly / Finding my dream house in Cley

Cley Windmill / A visit to Sandringham

Ice cream break / Cley Marsh

A snap at the seaside / Wiveton Hall

Wonderful Wells / Walking along the edge of the world

How many photos of the sea is too many?! I won't apologise- the scenery was just wonderful, and looking back at these photos makes me feel wonderfully calm too- definitely the tonic I need just at the moment. As well as a dip in the sea, this trip encompassed plenty of stately home and garden visits, all of which were amazing (I don't think I'll ever get over Blickling!), not to mention lots of lovely opportunities for walking around the countryside- although putting the walking boots back on after a pretty substantial break was a bit of a shock for my poor feet!

This was a truly lovely trip, and I can't thank Katharine enough for being an absolute planning ninja- it was the perfect peaceful week away!

Have you managed to enjoy a UK holiday this summer?
