09.10.2020- On the Menu: Peggy Porschen Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough

It's something of an understatement to say that trips out to eat have been few and far between in 2020, but it's definitely made those adventures which I have made to the outside dining world all the more special. A similar truth is that one of the things which has really helped me to get through the last few months is copious amounts of tea- there's nothing quite like the comforting process of popping the kettle on, even if it's only as something to take your mind off everything else which is going on (a.k.a A LOT.) As for enjoying tea and cake outside of the confines of my own house- a treat which seems like a total luxury. And, what better way to enjoy the sacred ritual of afternoon tea than at The Lanesborough for their very special Peggy Porschen serving?

This was a treat which was due to be enjoyed back in May for my lovely friend Jolene's birthday, but, as with so much of life this year, it had to be postponed until a few weekends ago. It was undoubtedly worth the wait, and The Lanesborough felt super safe and welcome, with all appropriate measures in place to keep guests safe and Covid secure during their stay. After perusing the digital menu and selecting our teas, we each enjoyed a selection of sandwiches, including my absolute afternoon tea favourite- coronation chicken! Next up, warm scones with cream and jam followed by some of the most beautiful cakes and patisserie I think I've ever seen. Amongst this selection of floral festooned treats, my favourites were the lemon tart and the raspberry and champagne sponge; I also got plenty of inspiration for my own baking adventures too, so watch this space!

Have you been able to enjoy any special treats out and about?
