13.11.2020- Socially Distanced Diaries: Polesden Lacey, Dorking

Happy Friday friends! How is everyone bearing up after week one of Lockdown 2? If I'm being brutally honest, I think I'm finding this one a bit tougher than the last- and I'm pretty sure that my overall outlook about things back then was definitely on the sunnier side, and I felt like I had a lot more to keep me occupied- especially in the garden. Having said that, I'm still trying to find small moments of joy where I can, and getting outside to see autumn unfolding has definitely been a real boon. About a fortnight ago, my lovely pal Katharine and I headed to the Surrey Hills to explore Polesden Lacey and the wonderful walks around the estate on a perfectly sunny late autumn afternoon:

Pretty dreamy, right? Despite only living about half an hour away for the last thirty years (!), I'd never been to Polesden Lacey before! A small blessing of this year has being able to discover some totally new things more or less right on my doorstep, and this stunning corner of the Surrey countryside really is no exception- about as picture postcard perfect as you could imagine. Replete with face coverings, we were able to look around the house, explore the gardens and indulge in a jacket potato before hitting the longest walking trail around Ranmore Common and back up to the house. It really was the perfect afternoon for it, with dappled sunshine filtering through the trees and the colours of autumn looking glorious against a miraculously blue sky...even more surprising giving the downpour of the morning!

Have you discovered any new local favourites recently?
