16.08.2019- An Interiors Update

As I start to think about the slow slide towards autumn and the inevitable arrival of winter, recently I’ve found myself adding some new cosy touches to my space at home to make things a little bit more comfortable. I love the spring and summer as they usually tend to mean that I’m able to spend the majority of my time outside, but as the seasons shift and the temperatures tumble, it’s inevitable that the hibernation and hygge instinct kicks in and I find myself more keen to hunker down indoors. Over the last couple of months, I’ve picked up some fresh favourites for my room which have not only helped to really lift the space as a whole, but also provided some practical, space-saving solutions:

I’ve been looking for a more permanent form of storage for my room for what feels like ages now, and after the baskets which I’d been using for the last few years well and truly gave up the ghost earlier in the year, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to invest in an ottoman. I’d been looking around for one which would fit nicely in my room without dominating the space too much, and which was also affordable- so, as much as I loved the styles which West Elm and Loaf had to offer, I opted for this pink velvet design from Argos- which for £79 in the sale couldn’t be sneezed at! Not only is it the perfect match for lots of the colours already at work in my room (including this pretty pink pen pot from the Design Museum in Copenhagen), it’s also wonderful for stashing things away nearly out of sight- including my mountain of handbags and archive of magazines.

Next up, a new mug from Fiona Shannon Ceramics, which I picked up from the lovely Ursa Minor Bakehouse in Ballycastle, Northern Ireland. It’s far too pretty to use every day, so for now it’s taken pride of place at the top of my bookshelf, a lovely reminder of a wonderful trip to somewhere I hope to be heading back to soon, and one which has such a special place in my heart. Alongside this, a few more decorative touches, notably this oversized palm leaf (a bargain in the West Elm sale), and printed Marta Barcikowska card which I picked up from Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop in Galway- something I must get round to framing soon! I love the sentiment behind it, and again it evokes some really fond memories of a lovely trip- so much so that I’m resolved to pick up a little home addition on all of my travels from now on, whether that be the obligatory tea towel, something ceramic, or a completely one-of-a-kind find.

Have you discovered any new homeware favourites recently?
