08.06.2020- Beauty Buys: Lockdown Skincare Staples

There's no doubt that there's been a lot which has changed during lockdown and over the last few months, and I think we've all been struck by how much things have altered in such a short space of time. Like most people, I jump between moods as quickly as the weather shifts these days, and have been quite mindful of the direct correlation between my social media consumption and how I feel about everything too. As well as trying to find happiness in the small, everyday things, I've also been taking the opportunity to take a bit more care of myself, including completely overhauling my everyday skincare routine:

To say that things have been scaled back is a massive understatement! I haven't worn any makeup at all since the middle of March, and my skin has really reaped the benefits of this, as well as of not being exposed to anything near as much pollution as it would ordinarily be. I've also been super mindful of not spending any unnecessary pennies on surplus skincare, so have been using up supplies which I've got in my stash (as well as some products which my mum has had squirreled away!) over the last couple of months.

Day-to-day, my routine really has gone back to basics- cleansing and toning followed by moisturising with CeraVe, which is a new brand for me. I'm getting on really well with it so far, and it's perfect for this time of the year as it's so light and fast-absorbing without being greasy- I just wish I could put it to the test outside of the bubble of the local block! Next up, Glossier's Invisible Shield, which is an everyday must, irrespective of whether it's grey and overcast or sunny outside. My skin is super prone to sunburn, so this is an essential, and again wins lots of points for being non-greasy and long-lasting too.

With the luxury of time, I've been switching up my cleansing game a little bit and rotating a selection of newer favourites. Chief among them is the Elemis Rose Cleansing Balm which I love because it's so gentle and completely non-abrasive. It also doesn't draw out any of the moisture from my skin which is a huge bonus, particularly with spending 23 hours of the day indoors just now. Another fresh, rose-tinted favourite is the Mario Badescu facial spray with aloe, herbs and rosewater which I've been using after cleansing and before bed, as well as when my skin has needed an on-the-spot boost. Finally, an old favourite- my rose quartz facial roller which I've been deploying a few evenings a week along with some facial oils which I'm in the process of using up. I'm always slightly amazed at how much of a difference it makes to my skin after using it- sometimes it's the simple things which work best!

Have you been switching up your skincare recently?
