27.11.2020- Lockdown Lunch #18: Jazmine Rocks

Hello hello! Live and direct from the final stretch of 2020, aka the most inconsistent year in living memory! I thought that the multiple elections of the last few years were tricky enough to navigate, but, in hindsight, I think that they were probably just a practice-run for the total rollercoaster of this year. Now that we're in yet another phase of 'new normal' (which is anything but), it seemed like an ideal time to resurrect this little series, as I loved pulling it together so much over the summer, and it gives me the perfect opportunity to catch up virtually with some of my favourite people from online life!

My subject this week is the wonderful Jazmine Rocks, one of my OG blogging favourites. Jazzabelle's Diary is still one of my most frequented online spots, and Jazmine's gorgeously curated content always inspires me- even more so now that she's moved into her very own flat- serious WFH goals right there! We caught up to talk about work/life balance, signature dishes and some much-anticipated festive films dropping on the 'Flix:

How are you coping with things at the moment?

Rather good, thank you! I feel incredibly lucky that I'm able to work from home; I've created a good routine with boundaries, have the best work/life balance I've probably ever had, and feel like I'm being much more productive! I'm not an overly social person, so spending almost all of my time at home suits me just fine, though of course it sucks that I haven't been able to see friends or family. As I live alone, I'm part of my boyfriend's bubble, so it's great to stay at his house every now and then to get a little social interaction!

What are you missing most about life as it was?
Family gatherings filled with fun, hugs and good food. I've been able to see my mum, dad, nan and grandma a couple of times since March, but it's been super sad to be away from all of my aunties, uncles and cousins! I can't wait until we can all get together again. Thank goodness for technology, hey? I had a mini afternoon tea party with some of my family this weekend which was so lovely.
Which foods/recipes have you been reaching for?

Chicken curry (my grandma's recipe!), chilli with nachos, my signature dish of duck with orange & honey sauce, my boyfriend's gumbo, and The Mother Cooker's chicken noodle soup! Working from home means I have so much more time in the day and evenings to prep and make healthier, filling dinners.

What small things are making you happy?
The first cup of coffee I have in the morning, all the Christmas films landing on Netflix, and supporting my mum with her new Etsy venture!

What are you making time for now that you didn’t before?
My hair! Lockdown has giving me the time and space I needed to learn to love, nurture and embrace my natural hair. Washing my hair is quite the act of self-care for me, and I've so been enjoying experimenting with new hairstyles, that I probably wouldn't have had the confidence to do at the start of the year when things were 'normal'!

I'm craving a good chicken noodle soup so much! And I'm so with you on being a homebody at heart- it's definitely made this year a little bit easier, I think. A huge thank you to Jazmine for taking part, and be sure to keep up-to-date with her on her blog, Instagram and Twitter!
